 Press Releases

  • ATLANTA – Georgia-Pacific Chemicals introduces the new XPLOR™ line of dry emulsifiers that combine performance with operational benefits in terms of efficiency and total use costs.  XPLOR™ dry emulsifiers have demonstrated performance in diesel-, mineral oil- or synthetic-based drilling fluids.  They are compatible with a variety of solvents thus reducing the need to purchase multiple types of emulsifiers.

Shipped in 25 pound bags, the product is also easier to pour than traditional liquids in barrels, allowing for more precise dosing.  Using XPLOR™ dry emulsifiers eliminates drum transportation, cleaning and disposal costs.

Typical liquid emulsifiers may contain about 50% base oil but XPLOR™ dry emulsifiers have a higher activity level. As a result, less emulsifier is required to treat a drilling fluid than with a liquid emulsifier.

XPLOR™ dry emulsifiers have minimal resistance to flow, even at temperatures below freezing, so they are easier to work with in cold climates than conventional liquid emulsifiers that need to be hot boxed, steamed or jacketed in order to pour in frigid conditions.   As a dry product, the product is easier to control packaged in barrels.

XPLOR™ dry emulsifiers are the first products in a growing family of dry oilfield products from Georgia-Pacific Chemicals, adding to its portfolio of liquid emulsifiers, wetting agents and fluid loss additives.

  • ATLANTA--A new line of basic emulsifiers from Georgia-Pacific Chemicals provides an economic alternative to high performance emulsifiers for the oilfield industry.

"In today's demanding oilfield marketplace, we recognize the need to control costs," says Erik Speer, oilfield business manager for Georgia-Pacific Chemicals.  "In some drilling conditions, high performance emulsifiers are an over-engineered product for the application."

The new line of XPLOR products can meet basic performance requirements for drilling mud without sacrificing Georgia-Pacific Chemicals quality standards. They can be used with mineral-oil and diesel-based solvents and can be effective at converting or treating drilling fluid.

Georgia-Pacific Chemicals also manufactures a complete line of primary and secondary high performance emulsifiers including XPLOR dry emulsifiers.  Other products include fluid loss additives and proppant resins.
