Better Fracs for Better Wells

A better understanding of the rocks and reservoir results in better and more consistent well performance. Using existing drilling and completion data with proven engineering methods, Drill2Frac® provides unique insights, and better understanding of frac performance, to more effectively design your completions.

 Press Releases

  • For Immediate Release, The Woodlands, TX, February 5, 2019 – Drill2Frac and Apex Petroleum Consultants announced a strategic partnership to collaborate and work together to provide solutions for their clients. The companies’ collaboration will result in the following key benefits to their respective clients:

    • Drill2Frac’s platforms provide critical information pertaining to rock heterogeneity and its impact on fluid distribution and frac initiation. Apex can use that information to better understand impact on far-field models developed by Apex to improve well and reservoir performance.
    • Apex has a skilled team of onsite consultants who provide stimulation-treatment expertise and recommendations to clients. With proper rock heterogeneity information, they are better able to fine tune the stimulation program and maximize frac efficiency and performance.

Drill2Frac, based in Houston Texas has been a pioneer in the industry when it comes to understanding rock heterogeneity and how to design/modify completions to optimize frac efficiency and performance. It offers an integrated service based on three platforms – OmniLog profile, PerfAct engine, and FracCheck service to help customers understand, modify, and verify the impact of heterogeneity on their stimulation designs. Drill2Frac’s Lee Ramsey said the following “Rock Heterogeneity is an important property but it’s impact is best understood when integrated with other data and models that clients have. Apex brings that expertise and working together, the companies can help our mutual clients improve their economics and returns.”

APEX Petroleum Engineering Specializes in critical well operations.  This includes optimizing upstream assets, ensuring “Best in Class” wellsite engineering, and world class reservoir characterization.  The new and improved APEX Petroleum engineering has added state-of-the-art petrophysics and geomechanics to its reservoir engineering for optimizing single well or entire field performance. Ted Randolph, APEX PE’s new President says, “The new APEX PE will continue to emphasize its tradition: personalized engineering, both at the wellsite and in the office.  By building on our track record of superior results, we will continue to deliver efficiency gains and economic results.”

  • OmniLog – Rock Property Variations Affecting Fracs
OmniLog analyzes data obtained during drilling, and maps the Rock Mechanical Specific Energy (RMSE) variations in the well. The profile identifies rock with similar susceptibility to hydraulic fracturing....

  • The OmniLog lateral profile is a cost-effective approach for every well that uses drilling and other existing data to provide a well log of rock heterogeneity along the wellbore. The system uses a proprietary six-step process to refine the collected data and create an accurate log of rock properties that can be used stand-alone, or as input into the PerfAct applications. OmniLog results can be combined with other measurements such as Gamma Ray, mud logs, gas detector data, and mass spectroscopy results.

An average 27% improvement in well performance has been achieved through OmniLog lateral profile service and PerfAct optimization, based on comparisons to offsetting standardized completions of 108 wells in a variety of basins.

  • PerfAct™ Optimizing Frac Performance
PerfAct® service integrates rock property data and reservoir parameters with base frac design, to account for heterogeneity, and rock properties on the frac design. It optimizes designs for perforation placement, engineered diversion, and re-fracs....

  • The PerfAct engine helps you to design completions incorporating the uniqueness of each lateral within an efficient workflow – ensuring that each well’s unique characteristics are given full consideration without disrupting the efficiency of the manufacturing environment.

The PerfAct engine uses OmniLog measurements to minimize rock property heterogeneity within completion stages and incorporates additional measurements such as gas detector readings, mass spectroscopy of gas shows, or any other depth-based data that is available including considerations for perforation phasing, induced stress, and perforation friction.

The engine instantly analyzes any number of depth-referenced curves. Refined MSE, gamma ray, sonic, mud logs, and other measured or implied properties are weighted and simultaneously analyzed to create your optimal solution. Perforation depths are outputed so that optimization is based on rock properties and their position relative to other clusters within the same stage.

  • FracCheck Diagnostic Tool
FracCheck combines drilling data, GR, mud log, stimulation treatment data, and geosteering plots, to provide insights and analysis of the frac performance, to improve and fine tune stimulation treatment designs....

  • FracCheck diagnostic tool creates a model for the near wellbore, relating rock properties, reservoir parameters, and their impact on completion results. It provides mapping of the combined rock and reservoir properties along the lateral to identify sections with the most cost-effective, impact on completion results.

The analysis uses drilling data including geosteering data, gas shows, frac stage treatment data, and reservoir knowledge. The diagnostics provide data driven, cost-effective changes to the completion plan, using all available, near-wellbore data, better defining relationships between parameters such as breakdown pressure, pad pressure, volume-to-rate pumped, rock strength, and heterogeneity.
