SPE's Drilling Systems Automation Technical Section (DSATS) hosts an annual competition for university teams to design, build and operate a 2m tall mini-rig to drill an unknown formation completely hands free. Using surface and downhole sensors they optimize drilling parameters in near-realtime. This year teams had to drill a directional well autonomously. The winning team in 2019-2020 from the University of Oklahoma will exhibit their rig in booth 201 and present paper SPE-199640-MS "Autonomous Directional Drilling Using A Small-Scale Drilling Rig: SPE Student Competition" in Session 13 (Drilling Automation II) at 13:45 on Wednesday 4 March in the Grand Ballroom C.
